Help Others Grow

Being a Purdue Master Gardener is like stepping into a world where plants, soil, and creativity come together to make something beautiful—and you get to share that joy with others. Imagine learning all the tips and tricks to grow a thriving garden, from improving your soil to nurturing your favorite flowers or veggies.

The program isn’t just about digging in the dirt; it’s a chance to connect with other gardening enthusiasts, share ideas, and discover the endless wonders of nature. The best part? Once you've soaked up all that knowledge, you get to give it back to your community and help others grow their own gardens, solve tricky plant problems, or make their neighborhoods a little greener.

It’s about more than gardening; it's about making connections and spreading the love for something as simple and magical as watching a plant grow.

Become a Master Gardener

Becoming a Master Gardener in Allen County, Indiana, is a fulfilling journey that blends education with community service. This program is open to anyone interested in gardening and eager to share their knowledge with others.

First, register for the upcoming Master Gardener Training. Training in Allen County combines virtual and in-person training led by multiple experts and professionals. The program covers a wide range of topics, such as plant science, soil health, pest management, and more, and its goal is to train you to spread horticultural knowledge in your community.

Once training is complete, trainees must pass a final exam demonstrating their understanding of the material. After passing, you’ll then become a Master Gardener Intern. To earn the title of Master Gardener, you must complete at least 40 volunteer hours, sharing your knowledge through community projects, teaching, or other approved activities.

There are two training sessions per year to become an Allen County Master Gardener. Contact the Purdue Extension office in Allen County (or the extension office in the Indiana county where you reside) for exact dates and times.

Becoming a Master Gardener is not just about developing your skills—it’s about giving back to the community and fostering a deeper connection between people and the natural world.
